Helen Vannatter Whitlock

Helen Louise “Sissy” Vannatter Whitlock, 86, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at
Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV after a short illness.

Born on Sept. 15, 1930, at Fayette Station, WV, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lawrence M. Whitlock, who passed away on Feb. 26, 2014.

Also preceding her in death were her mother, Opal Rackley; her father, Jess Rackley; and two brothers, Earl “Bunny” Vannatter and Jess Vannatter.

Sissy is survived by her son, Larry Whitlock (Cindy), of Oak Hill; her grandchildren, Stacey Whitlock Ellison (Brian), of Flat Top; Mel Whitlock (Gina) of North Pole, AK; Jeffrey Whitlock of Elkins, and Laura Whitlock of Lexington, KY; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Cook of NC, Cooper Wheeler of Beckley, and Lilli Miller, and Maddi and Abbi Whitlock of North Pole, AK; as well as many other family members and friends.

Sissy was a homemaker, loving family member, caring friend and devoted member of the Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. James Keaton of the Gospel Tabernacle, officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
