Helen Minerva Mccormick Smith

Helen Minerva McCormick Smith, age 100, of Kincaid, WV, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born March 17, 1913 at Poplar Gap, Putnam County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles Berry and Mary Talithia Meddings McCormick. Helen was a homemaker and a long time resident of Kincaid, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Alton Smith on June 13, 1983, by a son, Roy Junior Smith of Kincaid, WV, by five daughters, Betty Jane Smith Lively of Strongville, OH, Mary Lou Smith Myers of Kincaid, WV, Goldie Marie Smith Stapus of Phoenix, AZ., Helen Ruth Smith Sizemore of Glen Morgan, WV, Virginia Ellen Smith Hodges of Cleveland, OH. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Lyle Forrest McCormick, William Sylvester McCormick, James Bernard McCormick and Charles Clifford McCormick, by three sisters, Mary Ann McCormick, Willie Mae McCormick Smith and Ruth Frances McCormick. Helen was the last surviving member of her brothers and sisters. Surviving are her children, six sons, Charles Edward Smith of Kincaid,WV., Darrell Allen Smith of Cleveland, OH, George Robert Smith of Elyria, OH, Ray Alvin Smith of Glen Jean, WV, Billy Lee Smith of Red Star, WV, John Leslie Smith of Kincaid, WV, two daughters, Beulah Pearl Smith Schnake of Pontiac, MI and Reba Jean Smith Sayers of Hill Top, WV. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 7, great great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and one self appointed grandson, David Miller of Prudence, WV. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV with Pastor Brandon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
