Helen Madlin Spradling Daniels, 93, formerly of Oak Hill, WV passed into her Lords arms on Saturday, January 27, 2018. She was born on January 11, 1925 in Minden, WV to the late Christopher and Sylvia (Wilson) Spradling. She was the fifth of six children: Gretchen and Irene (Hall) (sisters, deceased), Norman and John (brothers, deceased), and brother Richard Butch Spradling of Ohio.
Helen attended Oak Hill High School then moved to Akron, OH where she worked in a factory as a bucker (Rosie the Riveter) on C-37 aircraft. Upon returning to Oak Hill, she married John Lee Daniels in 1944. Helen and John settled in their hometown of Oak Hill, WV where they raised one son Chris Daniels (deceased) and 3 daughters (all now reside in Florida): Carrol A. Gowan (Ft. Myers), Connie L. Eleinko (Ft. Myers), and Donna Daniels (Fanning Springs).
Helen was deeply loved by her husband, children (4), grandchildren (13), great grandchildren (18), great great grandson and countless neighbors and church friends.
Helen gave so much of herself to her family, church, and friends. After John's service in the Army (an MP in the Philippines), he worked as both a postal carrier and a Baptist minister in Oak Hill while Helen was a homemaker and served much time by John's side at the church. Helen had a beautiful voice: she and John sang together at church, and she sang in a county choir (including many solos). She was also an Avon representative and worked during holidays at a dress shop in town. She was a Giver who cooked a meal or gave a helping hand to anyone in need.
Helen and John briefly moved to Parkersburg, WV while John served as pastor to Union Valley Baptist Church. They maintained their home in Oak Hill during that time, then retired back to that home.
With retirement, they spent winters on Pine Island, FL (Fishermans Wharf) where Helen became known for being a great cook (especially her salmon patties) and enjoyed being on a womens bowling team. When John fell ill with Parkinsons Disease, Helen kept him at home and took care of him until his passing September 22, 2002.
In recent years, Helen has lived in Gainesville and Ft. Myers (FL) to be near her daughters. Her last residency was at Springwood Court in Ft. Myers. She enjoyed her time there, loved and appreciated the caring helpers (who told of lots of funny things she did to cheer others and what a lovely woman she was).
She will be greatly missed for many reasons, and we thank God for giving her to us for 93 years.
