Hazel Beerbower

Hazel Smith Beerbower, 84, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, January 03, 2005 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born January 10, 1920 at Johnsdale, MN she was the fifth of eleven children born to the late Thomas Henry and Lizzie Ann VanKeuren Smith. She was a retired beautician and homemaker. Mrs. Beerbower was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Beckley, WV. Mr. and Mrs. Beerbower served a mission on a North Dakota Indian Reservation in 1982 - 1983. She was a 1937 graduate of Elk Point High School in North Dakota. She was an avid genealogist. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Oliver Wendell Beerbower on July 14, 1996; sisters, Alice Alouise Smith, Merilla Matilda Smith, Merna Sedy and Una Vela; brothers, Sylvester Syrenous, Cecil Syral, Millard Henry and Clifton Cleve Smith. Survivors include daughter, Thelma Louise Callen and husband, Eugene John, of Albia, Iowa; brother, Ishmael Eugene Smith of Missouri; sister, Mildred Merdal Lane of Rock Island, IL; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchldren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at the church from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Services will be on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at 1:00 P.M. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Stanaford Acres in Beckley with Bishop Todd Matson and Bishop Clarence Brooks officiating. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity WV.
