Hattie Bennett

Hattie "Teacher" E. Bennett, 90, of Kilsyth, WV died Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Raleigh General Hospital after a short illness. She was born September 26, 1913 at Willis Branch, WV, the daughter of the late Willie and Elsie Phillips Williams. Hattie was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a volunteer at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley for 19,000 hours. In 1992, she received recognition from President George Bush for her outstanding community service. She was a lifelong member of the Kilsyth Free Will Baptist Church where she was "teacher" of the Beginner's Sunday School class for 56 years, member of the church choir and active member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Doc" Bennett in 1965; three sons, Charles Bennett, Jr., Lewis Bennett and Marvin Bennett; four brothers, Harmon, Russell, Cecil and Wilbert Williams. SURVIVORS are four sons, Danny Bennett of Eccles, Robert Bennett of Glen Burnie, Md, Tracy Bennett of Columbus, Ohio, and Frank Bennett of Grove City, Ohio; two daughters, Delores Shrewsbury of Cool Ridge and Carol Varney of Prosperity; five sisters, Nora Covey of Rock, Dorcus Kuhn of Rock Lick, Stella Britt of New London, Ohio, Mable Mitchem of Beckley, and Barbara Hartzell of Baltimore, Md. ; 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. SERVICES Tuesday, November 18, at 11:00 AM at Kilsyth Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call from 6 until 9 PM Monday, November 17 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, WV.
