Our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Harry William Whittington, Jr. will always be loved and missed. Of Rt 1 Fayetteville, WV and at the age 79 he died on Monday, August 11, 2008 at CAMC - General Division in Charleston, WV. Born March 29, 1929 at Montgomery, WV he was the son of the late Harry W. Whittington, Sr. and Estella Moss Whittington. Harry spent 20 years in the US military having served with both the US Army and Air Force. His jobs included paratrooper, truck driver and courier - among others- and he was in the last graduating class of the Glider Corp. He was also retired from Princess Susan Coal Company of Cabin Creek after having worked in the mines for 20 years. He was a member of the UMWA. Until he was 75, Harry, spent time every year gardening. He faithfully attended the Dothan Missionary Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Some knew him as "Sarge" and others called him "Red" - by whatever name, everyone knew him as friend. A grandson, Larry Bibb and two sisters, Marjorie McGill and Lorraine Whittington preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Joan K. Kelly Whittington; three sons, Richard William Whittington of Clayton, NC, Joseph Wayne Whittington of McKinney, TX and Edward Lawrence Whittington of Fayetteville; three daughters, Karen Motsinger of Oak Hill, Beverly Holland of Smithfield, NC and Bonnie Jean Grother of Smithfield, NC; one brother, Richard E. Whittington of Cannelton; three sisters, Catherine Stone of Greensboro, NC, Mary Ann Haynes of Norton, VA and Laura Spangler of Titusville, FL; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Lum Toney officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
