Harry B. Bays

Harry Byrum Bays, 91, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born April 14, 1916 at Summerlee, WV he was the son of the late John Thomas and Ora E. Hutchinson Bays. Mr. Bays was a retired coal operator. He had also owned a trucking company and did bulldozing work for strip mining and on local highway construction projects. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace P. Campbell, Mabel M. Westerkamp and Opal Virginia Mullins. Harry was a life-long member of the Jones Avenue First Church of God in Oak Hill and a graduate of Oak Hill High School. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ruth Faye McNulty Bays; two daughers, Mary Sue Woodson and husband, Larry of Willowick, OH and Janet Gaye Holt of Kenner, LA; one son, John Edward Bays and wife, Theresa of Hutchinson, KS; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.
