Gwendolyn Mae Kees, age 95 of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on Tuesday, November 23rd with her family at her side. Heaven gained another angel when our precious mother and grandmother left us.
Gwen was born August 17th, 1926 in Burnwell, West Virginia to parents Fred Hall and Effie (Kitchen) Hall.
Gwen grew up in Burnwell, West Virginia, the 8th of 9 children. She worked helping her mother run a boarding house for coal miners and at the Burnwell Imperial Colliery Company Store. Her life work was caring for her family; she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill, where she met many lifelong best friends.
In 1946 Gwen married Thermond Kees, a rambunctious young man fresh out of World War II.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Effie Hall; her husband of 47 years, Thurmond; an infant son and daughter, Gary and Gilda; brothers Earnest, Reid, Chester, Carl and Ed; sisters Thelma, Frieda and Eloise; brother-in-law’s Walter and Clifford and sister-in-law’s Stella and Opal.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Terry Kees and his wife Brenda of Ogden, UT; Robin Begley of Huntington WV; grandsons Jason Kees and his wife Amin of Issaquah, WA, Shawn Kees of Sunnyvale, CA and Max Kees of Ogden, UT; granddaughters Rachel Turley and her husband Takeshi and Hannah Begley all of Huntington, WV; and great grandchildren Amy, Collin and Kaia Kees. We will all miss the conversations ending with "I love you."
Special thanks to Hospice of Huntington, the Calvary Baptist Church, and Deanna Lucas and Lori Ward for their devoted friendship, and so many more.
