Gwendolyn I. Blackburn Sanger

Gwendolyn Irene (Blackburn) Sanger passed to her eternal home in the arms of our Lord and was greeted by her true love, Carl Morris Sanger, who died on July 20, 2012. Present at her bedside at Plateau Medical Center was her daughter, Sarah Glover, family true friend and adopted family Jimmy Day, and caring and compassionate care givers. Grandson Eric Hambrick and family have shown by their words and actions of love during these times. Special heartfelt praise and unconditional love and recognition go to Pat Franklin from Jones Avenue Church of God, Steve Hayslett and fiancé Cindy, Carolyn Yarber, Nancy Newberry, Tommy Tomlin, John and Hope Scott, and brother of Carl Sanger, Jack in Charleston, West Virginia. Gwen was born in Louisa, Kentucky on September 8, 1927 to a family of 15 children. She moved to Page, West Virginia at 16 years old and married John McKinney and later had one daughter, Sarah Ellen. John was killed in a mine accident when she was two years old. Eight years later Carl and Gwen married and with Sarah traveled doing surveying of highways. Gwen worked at numerous organizations to help support their family. Moving back to Oak Hill in 1961 they purchased a home and farm where they raised Morgan horses, farmed, and loved living. Gwen worked at Noyes Men’s and Boys Store for over 30 years before retiring and enjoying her and Carl’s love. Left behind is their daughter, Sarah Glover, grandson, Eric (Tammy) Hambrick, and granddaughter Kristen (Eric) Gallant both from Ohio. She has five great grandchildren, Darian Heintzman, Lauren Hambrick, Ian Heintzman, Evan Hambrick, and Makenna Gallant. Mom and Dad gave to the best of their ability, with the work of their body, the limits of their minds and the strengths of their soul, tried to fill us with love, shelter, and food. They gave us as much of their time as possible in this hectic, hurried word. They always gave us fun and laughter. They tried to give us the safety and protection we have a right to and felt we had an obligation to pass it on. They tried to let us know about life’s unpleasantries without scaring us too much. They tried to give us as much trust as possible in an apparent untrusting world. We thank Mom—MomMaw for the pleasures and treasures you have given us, both deserved and not. There has never been anything you have done that has taken away our unconditional love for you. Always and now, in our eyes, heart and soul, you are the most beautiful bud, the loveliest bloom, and the most perfect flower. We love you with every breath we take—forever.
