Georgie Ellen Shrewsberry

Georgie Ellen Shrewsberry, age 96, of Barkers Ridge, WV, passed away on July 28, 2024, after a brave and enduring battle with cancer. Her passing marks the end of a life lived with remarkable strength, grace, and dedication. She was a beautiful anchor as a loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother.

Born on May 23, 1928, to Rosa Gay Sizemore and Charley H Sizemore, Georgie was a true embodiment of resilience and service. During World War II, she worked as a Rosie the Riveter in an ammunition factory in Maryland, contributing to the war effort with unwavering commitment. Her contributions during this pivotal time were a testament to her patriotism and determination.

After the war, Georgie returned to her roots in WV, where she embraced life as a farmer and homemaker. She was married to her beloved husband, WWII veteran Thomas Wayne Shrewsberry, who predeceased her. Together, they created a loving home and raised a family grounded in the values of hard work and devotion. 

Georgie is survived by her two children, Eletha Sharon Brown and Anita Lynn Walker, and special daughter Christina Dow, fur baby Shirley and was preceded in death by her son Thomas Bradley Shrewsberry and her siblings Tolbert Sizemore & Jenny, Luther Sizemore & Dana, Clifford Sizemore & Myrtle, Oliver Sizemore & Grace, Aven Sizemore & Helen, Arther Sizemore & Rosemary, Boyce Sizemore, Bertha Pruitt & Joe, Kathleen Bishop & Frank, Pauline Rhinehart & Harry, Aline Shrewsbury & Estel, Willa Mae Blankenship & Carl, Enis Haynes & Ed, Pearline Sizemore, and Edly Sizemore. Her family, including her grandchildren Anthony Wayne Brown (deceased), Kalani Brown, Amanda Butcher, Dervon Brown, Kelly Shrewsbury, Ronnie Lynn Nelson, Kathy Bisel, and 13 great-grandchildren (Deceased great-grand children: Gage Bonvillian, Anthony Shrewsbury, Corra Shrewsbury), and 3 great-great grand children. She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss her legacy of love dearly. All those who came across her path will deeply miss her presence and cherish the legacy of love and resilience she leaves behind. Not to mention her biscuits & gravy and popcorn balls at Halloween.

Visitation will be held August 2, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm at her home church Mountaineer Baptist Church Barkers Ridge, WV. A graveside memorial service by Pastor Lucas Shrewsberry to celebrate Georgie’s life will be held on August 3, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Thomas Wayne Shrewsberry Cemetery, Barkers Ridge, WV. Funeral to be handled by Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, WV. A reception to follow at the Shrewsberry Family Reunion at the Pine Patch. All are welcome.

Georgie Shrewsberry’s legacy of courage, dedication, Georgie’s kitchen, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a testament to enduring strength and the power of unwavering commitment to family and country.
