George Howard Phillips, 84, of Kincaid, WV died on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born September 03, 1925 at Lick Fork, Wriston, WV he was the son of the late Abe and Lula Darlington Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a retired coal miner having worked for Central Appalachian Coal at Morris Creek. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and the N.R.A. Three brothers, James Goode, Leon Goode and Maxon Phillips preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Bell "Beulah" Kincaid Phillips; two sons, Gregory Phillips of Douglasville, GA and Stewart Phillips of Marietta, OH; three daughters, Judith Casto of Poca, Shari Vest of Salem, VA and Tammy Phillips of Roanoke, VA and one brother, Virgil Phillips of Ashland, OH. He is also survived by two grandsons, William Leon Franklin, Jr. of Hinton and Christopher Phillips of Greer, SC and four great grandchildren, Joshua Franklin, Eli Franklin, Gabriel Franklin and Alexander Phillips. Services will be on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. William Slates officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
