George Marshall Legg

April 20, 1922 — September 21, 2014

George Marshall Legg, age 92, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Beckley, WV .

Born April 20, 1922 at Kilsyth, WV, he was the son William Jarrett “J.D” and Viola Persinger Legg.

Mr. Legg was a retired Journeyman Electrician and a member of the IBEW.

He was a member of the LifeBridge Assembly of God.

George was active in the boxing community having been a member of the West Virginia Boxing Hall of Fame, former Deputy Commissioner of Boxing and involved with the “Golden Gloves” boxing.

He was a decorated World War II US Army veteran who proudly served his country entering the Army in 1942 at Ft. Thomas, KY and being discharged in December of 1945.

His wife, Beulah Kathryn "Boots" Fleshman Legg preceded him in death on February 22, 1998. As the last surviving member of his immediate family he was also preceded by four brothers, Charlie, Ray, Bill and Willow; and four sisters, Opal (Clarence) Nicely, Kathleen (Bill) Saunders and infants Blanche and Drema.

Surviving are his special friends, Sherrill Patrick and husband Larry of Oak Hill, and nephew, Dr. Thomas Nicely of Lynchburg, VA.

Graveside rites and committal service will be on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 12:30 P.M. at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Oak Hill with Rev. Paul Bricker officiating and with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Burial will follow. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.

George's family wishes to thank Dr. Boyd and staff at the VA Medical Center for their excellent care these past 4 years, and a very special "thank you" to Georgia Blackburn who was "George's girl" who gave endless sacrifice of love and devotion in caring for him.

He will be sorely missed by his two special caretakers for the past 16 years since the passing of his wife in 1998, Larry & Sherrill Patrick.
