George Dennis Burgess, Sr.

George Dennis Burgess, Sr., 90, of Oak Hill, WV went to be the Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2011 after a long illness. Born December 2, 1920 at Cabin Creek, WV, he was the son of the late Patsy "Pap" Burgess, native of Italy and Hattie Loar Burgess, native of Tennessee. He was known to his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Dorty." George was a World War II veteran, where he proudly served his country on the U.S. S. Cincinnati. He was a member of the American Legion in Fayetteville, WV and previously attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Lochgelly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Delores Fernandez Burgess; his son, George Dennis Burgess, Jr.; his great grandson, Justin Alexander Davis; his sisters, Ruby Smith, Ottie Clemons, Ernestine Gay, Francis Starkey and Margaret Fernandez; and his brothers, Frank Burgess, Pete Burgess, and Junior Burgess. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ada "Belina" Secrist and husband, Holly; his granddaughter, Mia Davis and grandsons, Gregory and George "Denny" Burgess, III; his great- granddaughters, Alyssa Burgess and Samantha Davis; his great-grandsons, Matthew, Kyle and Christian Burgess and one great-great grandson; his sister, Helen Adkins of Marmet, WV; his brother, Arnold Burgess and wife, Julie of Oak Hill; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Burgess of Oak Hill. The family would like to give a special "thank you" to Gloria Adkins of Fayetteville, his longtime "caregiver" and friend. Also, to the employees of Pine Lodge for their loving care given to the man they called "PaPaw." Memorial Service will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. with Rev. Mark Secrist officiating.
