Geneva Ruth Clay

November 24, 1935 — July 25, 2018

Geneva Ruth Arthur Matheny Gilland Clay, 82, of Mount Hope passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Born November 24, 1935 in Oswald, WV she was the daughter of the late Golden William, and Easter Marie Reid Arthur.

Geneva was a homemaker, a faithful member of the Kilsyth Freewill Baptist Church, where she sang in the Church Choir, was member of the Ladies Auxiliary,Fishers of Men Class, and Assistant to the Wednesday night toddlers church.

She is preceded in death by three loving husbands, Garfield Matheny, Fred Gilland, and John Clay; four brothers, Rudolph, Harold, Shirley Gene, and William Arthur; and a sister Betty Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her seven loving children, Thomas Matheny (Karen), Canton, GA., Linda Matheny, Akron, OH., James Matheny, Maple Fork, Johnny Matheny, Mount Hope, Steve Matheny, Mount Hope, Danny Matheny, Mount Hope, and Bobby Matheny (Jean), Conley GA.; fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer Krueger, Bayvillge, OH., John Thomas Myers, Akron, OH., Patricia Hamad, Akron, OH., Samuel Myers, Akron, OH., James Matheny, Sand Branch, Andrew Matheny, Morgantown, Sarah Smith, Charlotte, NC., Shanine Hall, Crab Orchard, Joshua Matheny, Huntington, Danielle Matheny, Beckley, Brooke Matheny, Beckley, Grant Gosdin, McDonough, GA., Destiny Harper, Conley, GA., Chaston Matheny, Paloalto, CA.; thirteen great grandchildren, Frances Krueger, Charles Krueger, Madison Matheny, Baliegh Matheny, Harper Matheny, Myles Matheny, Sawyer Matheny, Elliot Smith, Margo Smith, Tyler Linksweiler, Christian Linksweiler, Amia Harper, and Ariel Harper; two sisters, Lodema Clay, Odd,and Deanna Sue Easter, Crab Orchard; a special companion Alfred Hurt, Oak Hill; and many numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. James Matheny and Rev. Orval Setliff officiating. Burial will follow at the Bradley Cemetery in Bradley. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation of sympathy be made to Kilsyth Freewill Baptist Church, PO Box 565, Mount Hope WV 25880, and Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.
