Gene L. Rakes

Gene L. Rakes, 83,of New Egypt, NJ passed away on Monday April 23, 2018 surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 6, 1934 in Fayetteville WV to William and Marie Blevins Rakes.
Gene was the fourth of ten children and loved his family. He married Rebecca K. Williams in 1966 and they moved to New Jersey where he worked as a shop supervisor for AMF. Rebecca preceded him in 1981 after a long battle with cancer. After AMF closed Gene moved to Florida, where he married Eileen Crawford in 1989. He went to work for High Tide Boat Lifts where he helped to make the company what it is today. He loved to be outside working on cars or building things with wood and fishing.
He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Eileen McMullen Crawford Rakes in 2016 and his step-son, Rickie.
Surviving are his sons, Charles (Rachelle) of Port St. Lucie, FL and Michael(Margaret) of New Egypt, NJ; a step-son Ronald (Diane) of Port St. Lucie, Fl; and a brother John(Janette) of East Windsor, NJ. He has 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 14 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 am with Pastyor Jessie Parker officiating. Burial to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
