Garland Lee Pugh , 87, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV.

Born September 26, 1927 at Lawton, WV he was the son of the late Samuel Henry and Myrtle Mae Sawyers Pugh.

Mr. Pugh was a retired Federal Mine Inspector for MSHA.

He was a member of the Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, Oak Hill and a former member of the Oak Hill Lions Club and the Plateau Club.

Garland was a WW II US Army veteran having served with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

His wife Betty Alice Perry Pugh preceded him in death. As the last surviving member of his immediate family he was preceded by brothers, Erskine Pugh, Elmer Pugh, Wilbert Pugh, and J.D. Pugh; sisters, Geneva Pugh Holt, Velda Pugh Anderson and Naomi Pugh Backus; as well as Alva Curtis Pugh and Edith Pearl Pugh who both died in infancy.

He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Dorothy Lee Shumate and her husband, David Keith of Roanoke, VA and a grandson, John David Shumate also of Roanoke.

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor C. Richard Edwards officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110 . Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
