Freel Boyd , 94, of Fayetteville, WV passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born March 09, 1919 at Ealemsville, VA he was the son of the late Jesse Claude and Mary (Lucy) Whitlock Boyd. Well known in the construction business, Freel was a retired foreman for Erdman Construction. Mr. Boyd was a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church and attended Cotton Hill Baptist Church. He was a World War II US Army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne. His first wife who was the mother of his children, Hila Mildred Humphrey Boyd; second wife, Thelma Gertrude Hendrickson Craddock Boyd and third wife, Nellie Marie Davis Coleman Boyd preceded him in death as did a son, William Boyd; daughter, Harlean Rice; son-in-law, Billie Joe Rice; daughter-in-law, Joan Boyd; and sisters, Ida McKinney, Goldie Cooper, Marie Burgess, Lena "Mickey" Whitt, Sylvia Young and Irene Boyd. Survivors include sons, Stanley Boyd and wife, Charlene of Fayetteville and Gary Boyd and wife, Lucille of Plainville, MA; daughter, Savannah Jeffries of St. Augustine, FL; daughter-in-law, Arvilla Boyd of Ft. Pierce, FL and brother, James "Roy" Boyd of Canvas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Denise Roeder and husband, Paul of Columbus, OH, Jerry Rice of Fayetteville, Dale Boyd and wife, Amy of Ft. Pierce, FL, Curtis Boyd of Ft. Pierce, FL, Beverly Boyd-Miller and husband, Jim of Austin, TX, Debbie Jamieson of Attleboro, MA, Cindi Sirard and husband, Mike of Attleboro, MA, Pamela Bastis and husband, Robert of Dighton, MA, Tami Egbert and husband, Jeff of Russellville, OH, Angela Keim and husband, Jonathan of St. Augustine, FL, Tina Boyd of Beckley and Annette Rutledge and husband, Joe of Lewis Center, OH; seventeen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 121 Talbert Avenue, Fayetteville WV 25840.
