Frank Preston Brown, Sr., 88, of Mount Hope, WV passed away Friday, July 27, 2006 at his home following a long illness. Born April 26, 1918 at Kingston, WV he was the son of the late William Thomas and Cora I. Stover Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired automobile mechanic and a US Army veteran, where he served as a tech sergeant stationed at New Caledonia in the Pacific Realm during World War II. His name has been placed in remembrance at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. in honor of his service by his son, Thomas. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill and attended Mount Hope High School. A brother Herbert Brown and four sisters, Deliah, Bessie, Elsie and Naomi preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Valeria R. Figiel Brown; three daughters, Dorothy A. Porter of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Barbara V. Bennett of Glen Burnie, MD and Regina A. Brown of Glen Daniel, WV; three sons, John W. Brown of Beckley, WV, Thomas "T.B." Brown of Bradley and Frank P. Brown, Jr. of North Wilkesboro, NC; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill with Father Paul Yuenger as celebrant. Burial will following a Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
