Frances O'Neal Carter Walker, 97, a 95 year resident of Mount Hope, WV died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill, WV following a short illness. Born February 3, 1906 at Harvey, WV she was the daughter of the late R. H. and Della Moore Carter. Mrs. Walker was a retired school teacher for Mount Hope Elementary School. She graduated from Mount Hope High School where she played basketball and from Marshall University where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She was an active member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple and the Mount Hope community. Her strength and energy were an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved her family, friends and neighbors, her home, flowers and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Lawrence "Bab" Walker; five brothers, Robert M.; Eugene S. "Gene"; William C. "Pete"; John Marshall and Charles A. Carter; and by one sister, Ruth. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Walker Hunter of Charlotte, NC one granddaughter, Ashley Carter Hunter of Ketchum, Idaho one brother, David L. Carter of High Point, NC and by many nieces, nephews and special friends Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Services will be on June 13, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Hope Baptist Temple in Mount Hope. Rev. David McCoy will be officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park., Oak Hill, WV Pallbearers will be Keith Birdsong, Steve Slack, Jerry Adams, Jessie Jones and Bill Adams.
