Frances Dixon Hawley, 86, of Mount Hope, WV died on Sunday, October 08, 2006 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born November 13, 1919 at Daisy, WV she was the daughter of the late George Ewart and Frances Leckie Dixon. She was retired as the administrative officer of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (formerly the U.S. Bureau of Mines) in Mount Hope after 37 years service. Prior to that, she taught school for two years at Beckwith after attending college. Frances was a member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple and attended the Mount Hope Christian Church. She was a 1937 graduate of Mount High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. Her grandfather, the late Col. Samuel Dixon was the founder and first president of the New River Company and the Price Hill Colliery Company. In addition to her parents, her husband, James F. Hawley and three brothers, George H. Dixon, Fred L. Dixon and Samuel Dixon preceded her in death. Survivors include several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Thursday, October 12, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Friday, October 13, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. Bill L. Withers and Minister Ferdinand Gavina officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley WV. Donations of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Greater Mount Hope Community Fund, Inc., 211 Bluestone Road, Mount Hope, WV 25880.
