Floyd Bonifacio , 86, of Mount Hope, WV died on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born September 02, 1924 in Mount Hope, WV above the family store, Bon Bon's, he was the son of the late Sam and Maria Troiani Bonifacio. He was a lifelong resident of Mount Hope with the exception of the time he served his country in the Navy during World War II, which included duty in Guam. Floyd was the owner of Bon-Bon Confectionary & Hardware in Mount Hope, a business which his parents established in 1920. He and his wife had continued running the family store with the passing of other family members including his youngest son, Rock. He expanded his family business to include the hardware and operated two theaters, the Mount Hope and the Princess, providing jobs for many persons who still remember working for "Chief." He dearly loved his "church family" at the Mount Hope Baptist Temple and enjoyed worshiping his Lord with them. Educated in the Mount Hope schools, he was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and Beckley College after his tour in the Navy. He was a good athlete who enjoyed sports, playing basketball for Mount Hope and Beckley College. He learned to pilot a plane after the war. Floyd served the citizens of Mount Hope as recorder for the city council, served a a city councilman and then for twelve years he served as Mayor. During his time as Mayor, new water and sewer plants were built for the city. He served on the board of directors at the Bank of Mount Hope and served on the Fayette County Improvement Council. He supported Mount Hope schools, the Youth Soccer League, which included donating the building for their use, church groups and many other groups and persons in the Mount Hope area. He was honored by the Mount Hope Federated League as "Citizen of the Year." Floyd and Phyllis served for years as the leading force of the town's yearly fall celebration, the Mount Hope Jubilee. They were both honored to serve as Grand Marshals of the 2009 Jubilee. Floyd will be greatly missed by his family and all of this friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest son, Phillip Rock Bonifacio on March 8, 2009, three brothers, Julius Bonifacio, Orval "Oggie" Bonifacio and Paul Bonifacio and six sisters, Rosa Gramacci, Lena Bergendahl, Algisa "Gese" Bonifacio, Edith Bonifacio, Dorina Bonifacio and Angelina Bonifacio.. He is survived by his wife of 55 years , Phyllis Davis, Bonifacio, sons, Doug Bonifacio and wife, Karen of Beckley and Dean Bonifacio and wife, Lori of Old Grandview Road, Beaver, one sister, Edith Davis of Dade City, FL, a sister-in-law, Leona Bonifacio of Mount Hope and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope. with Rev. Carlyle Blomme officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Ben Susman, Brad Wartella, Ronald Clay, Tom Smith, Ken Maynor and Donald Marchio. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Beverley.
