Flora Frances Amos Leek

Flora Frances Amos Leek , 96, of Hico, WV died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born August 30, 1916 at Mahan, WV she was the daughter of the late George and Lilia Kincaid Amos of Cunard. Her husband of 34 years, Jesse Smithson; an infant son, James Smithson; husband, Rev. Lloyd Martin of Russellville; and brothers, Lowell Amos of Arizona and Illinois, Odis Amos of Oak Hill and George Amos of Oak Hill preceded her in death. In later years she married Joe Leek (deceased in 2006) and for 20 years they enjoyed playing music. She and Joe were known as "Flo and Joe" and they played the keyboard and guitar at all the nursing homes and senior citizen groups. She was a 1936 honor graduate of Fayetteville High School. He first work was at the Fayette County School Book repair shop in Fayetteville. She was a member and secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary United Mine Workers' Union in Cunard. Flo worked for Dr. Hamilton in his hardware store in Oak Hill; worked in Chicago for Admiral and Motorola; worked for 21 years at Massey's at Victor;and retired from Sam's Market in Ansted in 1975. She was a member of Victory Independent Baptist Church in Victor where she played the piano and organ; member of AARP; 25 year volunteer for RSVP of Summersville; 15 year secretary for the Fayette County Song Convention and a 10 year correspondent for the Fayette Tribune. Mrs. Leek took several tours; enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and she took stain glass classes at Fayette Awning in Oak Hill. Survivors include a sister, Jeanette Stawychey of Steger, IL in addition to nieces, nephews; several step children and step grandchildren. Funeral services will be on May 24, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill in Oak Hill. with Rev. Tony Taylor officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
