Fannie I. Jones

May 15, 1917 — May 17, 2007

Fannie Irene Ferri Jones, 90, of Oak Hill, WV slipped quietly away in the early hours of Thursday, May 17, 2007. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 15, 1917 she was the sixth child and second daughter of the late Frank and Giovanni Pietrone Ferri and was intensely proud of her Italian heritage. She always said, “I’m a Catholic, I’m Italian, and I’m a Democrat, and I’m proud of it!”

Fannie is now joyfully reunited with “her Lonnie,“ the love of her life. She was entirely devoted to her family, giving generously of her boundless, unconditional love. She was concerned for and responsive to the needs of others, usually beyond her own needs. There was always someone in her family she was worrying and fretting over. Known as NuNu, her indulgence of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all their friends was legendary. Fannie had an exceptional bond with her sisters, Mary Kennedy and Anna Oxendale. These three Ferri sisters were affectionately known in the family as The Three Musketeers or The Three Stooges and were either together or talking on the phone. They are now together once again. Fannie discovered late in life, after playing the lottery for 20 years, that she liked to play the slot machines in Atlantic City with her sister Mary. She was spirited, fun, and loved life She was truly a gift and a blessing to her family and all who knew her and will be missed beyond words.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Alonzo “Lonnie” Jones, her sisters Anna Oxendale and Mary Kennedy, and her brothers Dominic “Shoemake”, Pete, Johnny, and Fred Ferri.

Survivors include her beloved twins, son, Lon Jones and his wife, Lilly, and daughter Lynn Jones, and partner, Hilry Gordon, as well as her niece, Loretta Lively whom she loved like a daughter, sister, Julie Hanson of Mobile Ala., and sister-in-law, Nelsie Ferri. She will be missed by her much-loved grandchildren, Joshua Jones, Jenni Jones and partner, Shane Parsons and Blake Jones, and her cherished great grandchildren, Jonah and Elias Parsons. She also has many other treasured nieces and nephews.

The family is enormously grateful for the exceptional care Fannie received from Dr. Larson and Robin Cox and nurses at the Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, from Hospice of Southern WV and from Becky Adkins.

Memorial mass will be held Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, 123 Elmore Street, Oak Hill, WV 25901.
