Evelyn Kay Reid McGuffin , 91, of Oak Hill, WV died on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born December 03, 1921 at Scarbro, WV she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Smith Reid. Mrs. McGuffin was a member of the Lochgelly Baptist Church Like millions of woman of her generation she worked during World War II. Initially as a shipyard worker in Groton, CN; helping to build submarines and at Swan Island, WA building Liberty ships. She became an electric welder and riveter. By war's end she was a master welder teaching men how to weld. She was a homemaker and resided in Oak Hill most of her life following the war. Her husband, Edward C. McGuffin preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Michael McGuffin and his wife, Marilyn of Charleston and by one niece and two nephews. Graveside rites and committal services will be on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 1:15 P.M. at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill with a eulogy by her son, Michael McGuffin officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM.
