Mrs. Evelyn Beatrice Thomas McLain, 96, of Jacksonville, Florida formerly of Oak Hill, died Monday, November 3, 2003, in Jacksonville Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born September 4, 1907 at Parral (Summerlee), WV, a daughter of the late James Isaac "J. I." Thomas and Mollie Bays Thomas. Mrs. McLain was a homemaker, a lifelong member of the Jones Avenue Church of God, Oak Hill,WV; member of the Women of the Church of God having served as the first President; was the church organist for fifty years; a 1926 graduate of Princeton High School, former member of the WCTU. Preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Stuart McLain on August 21, 1999, a brother, James Thomas, a sister,Frances Widdows and an infant daughter. Survivors include, one son, Edward H. McLain and wife Phyllis, of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Joann McLain Burgess of Oak Hill, WV; grandchildren, Mrs. Carl (Merry) Hanning, Mrs. Bill (Stephanie) Barker, Mrs. Kirk (Lyn) Lichty, Jessie Stuart McLain II and wife, Joi, Mrs. Michael (Mydra) Meyer; four sisters, Kathleen Walker of Orange Park, FL, Beulah Scanland, Lois Readdick, and Naomi Hightower all of Jacksonville FL; thirteen great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside rites and committal service will be Wednesday, November 5, at 1:00 PM at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with Rev. Ralph Shupe and Rev. Tonya Shupe officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
