Eugene Wilbur Lafferty, 85, of Beckley, WV passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008, at the home of his daughter, Anita Allen, in Sand Branch, WV. Born June 8, 1922 at Willis Branch, WV, he was the son of the late Lillian Lafferty Woolwine. Mr. Lafferty was retired from the US Army as platoon sergeant after serving for 21 years. He served during World War II and the Korean War where he was a recipient of two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star and one Silver Star. He worked for the Civil Service for 13 years. He volunteered at the Beckley Veterans Hospital for over 25 years and was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dreama Irene Angel Lafferty; a son, Dillian Lafferty; three brothers, Denny Ray Lafferty, James Lafferty, and McCarthy Woolwine, Jr. and a sister, Dixie Lee Pennington. Survivors include two sons, Gary Lafferty and wife, Cathy of Annandale, VA, and Roger Lafferty and wife, Cecylia of Beaver; a daughter, Anita Allen and husband, David of Sand Branch; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Lafferty Orr of Maryland; and five grandchildren. Service will be 1 PM Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, WV with the Rev. Gary Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6 PM until 8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
