Eugene R. Bailey

Eugene Ray Bailey, age 71, of Packs Branch, WV departed this life Sunday, March 30, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA following a short illness. Born Feb. 7, 1937, in Clear Creek, WV he was the son of the late Oliff and Daisy Young Bailey. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew Bailey, Vernon Bailey and Leonard Bailey; sister, Cora Bailey Graley; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Manning Bailey. Eugene was a “Child of the King” and a member of the Packs Branch Baptist Church serving God as Deacon. He was proud to serve God by caring for the elderly members of the community. He was a retired coal miner having worked 37 years in the mines and a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Ileatta Maynor Bailey of Packs Branch; his mother-in-law, Edith Workman of Colcord; sons, Ricky Bailey and wife, Vonda of Red Star, Randall Bailey and wife, Stephanie of Prosperity, Billy Bailey and wife, Anna of Bradley and Robert Bailey and wife, Dinah of Packs Branch; daughters, Robin Williams and husband, Dennis of Packs Branch and Renae McGinnis and husband, Bruce of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Racheal Meadows and husband, Bobby, Jeremy Bailey, Lewis Bailey and wife, Yolanda, Matthew Bailey and wife, Courtney, Michael Bailey, Jason Bailey, Joey Bailey, Jonathan Williams, Gary Williams and fiancée, Megan, Ashley Bailey, Amanda Bailey and Dakota Newman and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Meadows, Bailey Meadows, Jacob Meadows, Brenna Bailey, Madison Bailey, Danielle Bailey and Cassidy Bailey. Also left to cherish his memory are six sisters, Evelyn Robinson, Ethel Taylor, Edith Taylor and husband, Johnnie, Linda Toney and husband, Carl, Helen Blevins and husband, Jimmy and Betty Lou Laxton and husband, Ulysses; special friends, Ed and Verna Osteen and Keith and Janie DeLung; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the Packs Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Vance and the Rev. Harmon Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. His grandsons and great-grandson will serve as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, April 3, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Packs Branch Baptist Church sanctuary and fellowship hall. Although flowers are appreciated those that wish to cherish his memory may also make donations to the Packs Branch Baptist Church.
