Ethel J. Mayes

Ethel Jane Nutter Mayes, 98, of Page, WV died on Wednesday, March 04, 2009 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born May 04, 1910 at Rhonda, Kanawha County, WV she was the daughter of the late Levi and Sarah Wilson Nutter. Mrs. Mayes was a member of the Kincaid First Church of God, Order of Eastern Star No. 38, Montgomery and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Charleston. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Clarence Edward Mayes; son, Clarence E. Mayes, Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Jane Mayes and Shirley Weaver; three brothers, Clifford, Leonard and Thomas Nutter and four sisters, Frances Burruss, Pauline Hartwell, Nina Faulkner and Kathleen preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Levi Mayes and wife, Sue of North Judson, IN; two daughters, Colleen E. Hyslop and husband, James of Odenton, MD and Patricia G. Romm and husband, Douglas of Tucson, AZ; sister, Bernice "Pet" Spearen and husband, Carl of Fayetteville; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Services will be on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill in Oak Hill with Rev. Gerald Grant officiating. Burial will be at Montgomery Memorial Park, London WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with an Eastern Star Service. Family members will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy made be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.
