Elva L. Thorne Butler

Elva Lee Thorne Butler , 88, of Gatewood, WV died on Monday, February 07, 2011 at her home. Born March 30, 1922 at Gilmer County, WV she was the daughter of the late Luther and Annie East Thorne. Elva attended the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, at Gatewood. She was a retired housekeeper for Plateau Medical Center and a homemaker. Her husband, Harry A. Butler, sisters, Estelle Louise Hayes, Beatrice Caldwell Fletcher, Kathryn Faye Butler, and Virginia Mae Thomas and brother, Luther M. Thorne, Jr. preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Jackie Butler of Gatewood, one daughter, Nancy Bess of Gatewood, and brothers , Paul William Thorne of Rt 1 Fayetteville, James Eugene Thorne of Oak Hill and Leon Ray Thorne of Akron, Ohio, and a sister, Margaret Loraine Rhodes of Ohio. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Susan Gilkerson, Charlie Bess, T.J. Bess and Bill Butler and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at Bibb Cemetery, Gatewood. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
