Elmer Ray Scarbrough , 87, of Oak Hill, WV died on Tuesday, May 01, 2012 at his home. Born February 15, 1925 at Dothan, WV he was the son of the late William "Wildcat Willie" and Rosie Scarbro Scarbrough. He was a retired coal miner for New River Company at Summerlee. Mr. Scarbrough was a World War II US Navy veteran having received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association of New York and the Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. and A.M. Survivors include his wife, Ivora Rhodes Scarbrough, one daughter, Donna Pyles of Purcellville, VA, five sons, Dexter Scarbrough and wife, Martha of Hilltop, Delbert Scarbrough and wife, Della of Fredricksburg, VA, Douglas Scarbrough and wife, Tammy of North Carolina, Kavin Scarbrough and wife, Gay of North Carolina and Ivan Scarbrough and wife, Cheryl of Bluefield and a sister, Oakie Langford. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW #3110. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
