Ella R. O'Neal

Ella Rebecca Bane O'Neal, 82, of Gatewood, WV died on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 at her home following a brief illness. Born February 23, 1923 at McGraws, WV she was the daughter of the late Leland Stanford and Lona Belle Perry Bane. Her husband, James Remuel O'Neal preceded her in death. Ella grew up in Oceana, WV and graduated from Oceana High School. She was a registered nurse having received her degree from Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery, WV. She was a World War II US Army veteran having served as a 1st Lieutenant. She was stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii and stateside. Mrs. O’Neal was a homemaker and farmer for most of her life. She sponsored and was the leader for two 4-H Clubs in the Salem-Gatewood areas. She was the leader of the BYF at the Oak Hill Baptist Church and she along with her husband, James, were the leaders of the Fayette County BYF Association. Ella served as a nurse at the WV Baptist Camp in Cowen and was a resident director at a dormitory at Alderson-Broaddus College. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill and the Collins High School Band Boosters. Ella enjoyed sewing, quilting, her pets, life on her farm and visits from her friends and family. Survivors include one son, Leland D. O'Neal and wife, Laura, of Fayetteville, WV; one brother, Russell Bane and wife, Magdalene, of Louisa, VA; one sister, Helen Hall of Taylors, SC; one grandson, Jim O'Neal of Fayetteville, WV ; two nieces and one nephew. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV on Thursday, October 6, 2005, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Friday, October 7, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity WV. Jim O'Neal, Roger Goins, Brian Goins, Frankie Light, Otie Treadway and Anthony Treadway will serve as pallbearers.
