Edward Hughes McLain, age 70, of Jacksonville, FL died Thursday, August 26, 2004 in Norfolk, VA. Born June 12, 1934 in Oak Hill, WV he was the son of the late Jesse Stuart and Evelyn B. Thomas McLain. Mr. McLain was a mechanic and port engineer for Moran Towing Corporation. He was an active member of the University Boulevard Chapel First Church of God and was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a para-trooper. Eddie is survived by his wife of 49 years Phyllis Cottle McLain, formerly of Minden; daughters, Stephanie (Bill) Barker of Jacksonville; Lyn (Kirk) Lichty of Neptune Beach, FL; Mydra (Michael) Meyer of Jacksonville; son, Jesse S. (Joi) McLain, II of Middleburg, FL; sister, Joann Burgess of Oak Hill; 11 grandchildren, one great grandson and by two nieces, Merry (Carl) Hanning of Oak Hill and Kimberly (Dane) Sanders of Amite, LA. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the University Boulevard Chapel, 2214 University Blvd. S., Jacksonville, FL with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. His cremains will be scattered at one of his favorite jet skiing locations.
