Edna Mae Jamison Painter, 86, of Oak Hill, WV went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born June 13, 1920 at Wellsburg, WV she was the daughter of the late Emory and Blanche Jamison. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oak Hill where she served for many years are a Junior High Sunday school teacher. Edna graduated from Wellsburg High School and earned a scholarship to Bethany College. She later transferred to West Virginia University where she met her future husband, James "Puck" Painter. At WVU, Edna was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and a ROTC Scabbard and Blade Sweetheart. Married two days after graduation from WVU, Edna traveled with Puck to his many Army posts until he was sent overseas to war. She worked in a munition plant and later taught school in Alderson, WV while Puck was in the Army. After his discharge, they came to Oak Hill to make their home. Mrs. Painter was a retired Fayette County School Teacher having taught science at Collins Junior High/Middle School in Oak Hill for 26 years. She was a member of the N.E.A. retired, WVEA and Fayette County ART. She was also a member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club, a life-long member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Zeta Masters and a member of the WVU Alumni Association. Her college sweetheart and husband of 60 years, James P. "Puck" Painter preceded her in death, as did sisters, Betty Wells of Wellsburg, WV and Mary Jane Graham of North Fort Myers, FL. Survivors include son, Michael J. Painter, Sr. and wife, Karen of Maxwelton, WV; daughter, Patricia Jamison-Painter of Gray, GA and brother-in-law, Robert Painter and wife, Dottie of Oak Hill, WV. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Smith and husband, Dr. Eric Smith of Ashland, KY, Nikki Smith and husband, Stg. David Smith of Japan and Michael J. Painter, Jr. of Mt. Sterling, KY; five great grandchildren; special nieces and nephews and friend, Barbara Sasso of Gray, GA. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, December 1, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. Pallbearers will be Tom Booth, Cabby Bennett, Chuck Painter, Rick Pannell, Michael J. Painter, Jr. and Jack Wells. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert F. Painter.
