Edith Sutphin

Edith Mae Sutphin, 88, of Oak Hill died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born February 27, 1919 at Sanger, she was the daughter of the late Shirley George and Ida Florence Burgess Burgess. Mrs. Sutphin was a homemaker. She was a member of Jones Avenue First Church of God and the Golden Agers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Hugh Sutphin; brothers, Vernon S., Leonard C., Robert D. and Paul Burgess; sisters, Bessie G. Treadway Watts, Opal B. Crouch and Marie Garten. Survivors include a son, R. D. Sutphin of Oak Hill; granddaughters, Christie, Ellen, Trina and Amber; sisters, Irene Faye Stephenson of Hilltop, and Ruth Hypes of Oak Hill; and two "special boys", Nicholas and Joshua Smith; seven great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with the Revs. Ralph and Tonya Shupe officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call from 6 until 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
