Donald Cameron Tully

Donald Cameron Tully, 84, of Oak Hill passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at Hidden Valley Center after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Don was born October 17, 1927 in Winona, West Virginia. He met and married his wife, Elizabeth Wills, and they were married in 1949. She was still the love of his life after 63 years. Together they had three beautiful daughters, Karen, Kathy and Donna. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ryan Owen Tully and Hattie Lee Pittsenbarger, sisters Frances Tully Holliday, Alberta Tully Teel, Marguerite Tully Freeman and Louise Tully and brothers, Ryan Edward Tully and Charles Floyd Tully. Don served in the United States Navy and the West Virginia National Guard. Don proudly served on the Board of Deacons and various other boards and committees of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill for over 40 years. He was a surface mining job foreman with Ranger Fuel Company, surface mining superintendent of Oak Leaf Coal Company, and vice-president of Eagle Ridge Coal Company. After retiring from the coal industry he became a service technician with Dover Elevator Company for over ten years. Don loved reading, photography, water-skiing, boating, traveling, gardening, woodworking, genealogy, and spending time with his family. He loved life and was always willing to help others. Don is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Wills Tully; children Karen Perry and husband Howard of Winfield, Kathy Shumaker and companion Richard Harvey of Oak Hill, and Donna Parker of Myrtle Beach, SC.; grandchildren Marc Perry (Amy) of Hurricane, Heath Perry (Laura) of Gulfport, Mississippi, Nicole Shumaker of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Jarrod Shumaker of Cary, NC and Megan Parker of Myrtle Beach, SC. Great-Grandchildren Emily Perry, Zane Perry, Laurie Carter, and Slade Perry. A service to honor the life of Don Tully will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Calvary Baptist Church, Oak Hill, West Virginia with the Rev. C.W. (Jack) Barker and Pastor Mark Wood officiating. Burial will be in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill and one hour prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill. Don lived a full and happy life – always putting God first, then his family. He enjoyed wood-working, electronics, reading, travel, photography, boating, water-skiing, carpentry, and attending church. His life ended peacefully and gracefully surrounded by family. The Tully family would like to thank the staff at Hidden Valley Center.
