Donald Harvie Stark, 80, passed away on April 12, 2004, at the Hidden Valley Nursing Center in Oak Hill after a long illness. He was born in Huntington, WV, to former Mayor of Mount Hope, William Harvie Stark and Dorothy Williams Stark on September 18, 1923. Mr. Stark was graduated from Montgomery High School in 1941 and attended West Virginia Tech in Montgomery and graduated from the Ohio State University School of Architecture in 1949 after having served with the U. S. 16th Armored Division in the European Theatre during World War II. Mr. Stark was a well respected architect with offices in Oak Hill and Beckley. He was also registered to practice in Virginia and North Carolina. He was responsible for designing many commercial, residential, and public school buildings in Fayette and Raleigh Counties. Some of his designs include the Oak Hill Public Library, the Raleigh County Armory, and the Conference Center at Glade Springs, formerly known as "The Inn." He was a member of the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church for 54 years where he served as elder, deacon, and trustee of the church. A member of the Mount Hope Lions Club, White Oak Country Club, and the Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Stark was a member of the MacDonald-Warren Lodge # 103. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Beni Kedem Temple. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Felice Jobe Stark; a son, John Stark and wife Cindy of Beckley; a daughter, Jennifer Ball and husband Dr. Tony Ball of Columbia, Tennessee; a brother, James P. Stark and wife Jeannette of Greenville, S. C, five granddaughters, Megan Stark and Marien Stark of Beckley, Carly Ross, Alex Ross, and Liza Ross of Columbia, Tennessee, a sister-in-law, Frances Jobe of The Summit in Oak Hill, a sister-in-law, Betty FitzGerald of Piscataway, N. J., and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April, 14, 2004, from 6 to 8 pm at the Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope. Service will be held at the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April, 15, 2004, at 11:00 am with the Reverend Jerry Cook officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Pallbearers will be Steve Brown, Bob Dorado, Charles Howard, Thomas Howard, Michael Martin, Dom McLain, Kevin Radford, Dan Snead, and Paul Williams.
