Dolores Wender

Dolores LaBounty Wender , 90, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born February 03, 1921 in Chicago, IL she was the daughter of the late C. H. and Alvina Steurer LaBounty. In 1948, Dolores and her husband, Morris Wender, moved to his hometown of Oak Hill. Always the devoted wife and mother, Dolores worked side by side with her husband and their son, Matthew, in various family business endeavors. Mrs. Wender's years in Oak Hill were filled with civic contributions to her community. For many years, she was an active member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and the Oak Hill Civic League. Prior to becoming ill, Dolores was also involved in the Fayette Study Club, Quota International of the Plateau Area, Oak Hill Business and Professional Women and the New River Humane Society. She loved to read, and if it can be said that she had a passion outside of her family, it was her avid bridge playing.  Her husband, Morris Samuel Wender, brother, T. Justin LaBounty and beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Wender preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Matthew Wender of Oak Hill, daughter, Karen "Nikki" Wender Downing of Carmel, IN, sister, Mary Hanley of Chicago, IL, grandsons, David Wender and Nathan Downing, granddaughter, Ariel Downing, great granddaughters, Sophia and Audrey Wender and several nieces and nephews. According to her wishes, there will be no visitation. Graveside rites and committal of her cremains will be on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill with the Reverend Delmas Wolfe officiating.  In lieu of flowers, Dolores requested that memorial donations be made to the New River Humane Society, PO Box 955, Fayetteville WV 25840 or the Oak Hill Library, 611 Main Street West, Oak Hill WV 25901.
