THE GENERAL
Dennis LEON Scarbro 06-27-1951-09-29-2024
Disclaimer: The following information is for our loved ones. If my dad had any say everyone would be lucky to be notified of his passing, he was a very private man, he kept his circle small, if he loved you, he loved you with his whole heart, if he did not like you, you knew.
Leon was born 06-27-1951 in Clear creek West Virgina one of ten children. Raised up the holler. From an early age he was resilient helping on the family farm, him and his brothers making moonshine while his father worked the coal mines to help support the family. Leon graduated Mt hope has in 1970,
He set off to Lansing Michigan with his brothers by his side. After getting established in Lansing, he drove all night back to West Virgina to ask for the love of his life’s hand in marriage.
08-10-1970 Leon & Cheryl stared their life in Lansing. Leon was an amazing drywaller and was hired into Oldsmobile where he eventually took early retirement in the 1980’s.
March 1971 the first child Mort was born, Leon worked hard to provide the best life he could for his family he took pride in beautiful fast cars and Harleys. in the late seventy’s he built a Harley that was many a man’s dream.
June 1976 I appeared , always a daddies girl, we always had a beautiful red sports car in the driveway and a house full of family where cousin where raised almost as siblings, the neighbors dubbed us the Beverly hillbillies , if Leon wasn’t at work you didn’t have to look far him and his brothers & mort could be found in the garage wrenching on cars or just doing guy stuff. This is where Jeff came into the picture, asked to spend the night and never left. dad loved jeff as his own and I had another brother.
After retiring from Oldsmobile Leon & Cheryl packed up and moved us to THE PROPERTY in pax WV. He wanted to get his kids out of the city and protect them from growing up to fast in the Big city. With Cheryl by his side, he built a home and started a small farm he worked bailing hay fighting Billy goats, raising fighting roosters and after a long hard week of work to enjoyment in riding pleasure horses with me, his baby girl and friends on Sundays.
Leon loved westerns, he always had to watch to see what old Festus was up to, he also loved his whiskey, Cheryl & Shannon would polish his cowboy boots, the boys would wash his car, he would splash on his Stetson cologne off to bar stool mountain he would go. When my dad spoke, everyone listened, he was quiet, blunt and a force to reckon with
He was preceded in death by his parents Grady & Ardeana, brother’s Alan, Lawrence & his partner in crime & western watching buddy Franklin & special niece Kristy Nicole
Those left to cherish his memory are his soul mate Cheryl Scarbro (pax)
