Dennis James Keffer, Sr.

Dennis James Keffer Sr., 89, of Lively, WV died on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born April 03, 1923 at Lively, WV he was the son of the late Elmer Brady and Myrtle "Mertie" Lively Keffer. Dennis was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in north Africa. Following his service to his county he served the people of the state of West Virginia as an officer for the WV Department of Natural Resources. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed working on the farm and gardening. He was a very social person and was loved greatly by so many members of the community. He was noted as a local historian and contributed information to many publications and book. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irma Lee Nichols Keffer, brother, Alfred Franklin Keffer and sisters, Opal Holley, Violet Williams and Mabel Evans.. Survivors include his wife, Delma Coleman Keffer , sons, Dennis James Keffer, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Pax, and Stephen N. Keffer and wife, Angie of Lively, daughters, Debra A. Westbrook and husband, Earl of Charlotte, NC, stepson, George "Steve" Sparks and wife, Regina of Oak Hill and stepdaughter, Beth Sparks Sturges and husband, Jim of Swansea, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Angie Patterson, Christine Robinson, Wayne Lafferty, Jarrod Keffer, Merrit Markham, Heather Keffer, Shaun Keffer, Brandon Keffer, Adam Okes, Brittney Biere, Steven Sparks, James W. Sturges, IIl, Simon Sturges, Josiah Sturges, Mamie Sturges, Katie Sturges, Linus Sturges, and Zoë Sturges. He will also be missed by numerous great grandchildren and other family members. Funeral services will be on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Pallbearers will be members of his family. Family and friends may attend his visitation Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
