Coach Delbert Franklin Adkins

Delbert "Coach" Franklin Adkins , 84, of Mount Hope, WV died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born December 19, 1932 at Highland Mountain, WV he was the son of the late Beecher and Lida (Adkins) Adkins.

Coach Adkins was a teacher and coach at Mount Hope High School for 30 years, where he had a State Basketball runner up team, and at Big Island High School in Virginia for 4 years.

A member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple, he was a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Trustee. He was a US Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Smith Adkins; son, Douglas (Hollie) Adkins of Charleston; daughter, Debbie (William) West of Copper HIll, VA; sister, Shelvy Murdock of Prosperity; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Adkins of Charleston.

Services will be on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Mount Hope Baptist Temple with Rev. Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110. Friends may call from 11:30 am until service time.

Former players from his teams at Mount Hope and Big Island High Schools will serve as pallbearers.
