David Ronald Toney

David Ronald Toney, “Ronnie” or “DR” 73, a proud veteran of the US Army, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side.

David was born in Carlisle, WV and resided in Fayetteville, WV at the time of his passing. He is preceded in death by his father Alfred Toney, mother Elsie Toney, and sister Linda Cooper.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Sharon Toney, daughters Michelle Romani, Amanda Davis and husband Josh; Krystal Honaker and husband Charlie; son David Toney; son-in-law Dr. Livio Romani; grandchildren Lucia, Giulia, Blake, Kaden, Brooklyn, Maxx, Gage, and Lexi; siblings Alfred Toney (Mary), Darrell Toney (Bev), Sue Lively, and Pat Everett, along with several nieces and nephews.

He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 19 and served with distinction in the Vietnam War. He dedicated his time to volunteer work for the Vietnam Veterans of America and other community organizations. You could find him in the woods hunting or on the riverbank fishing with his grandsons and brother. He loved to cut a rug and tell a joke; his laugh was contagious. His three daughters were his world and that love carried over to his grandchildren. He took every opportunity to spend time with his family and friends, and never hesitated to help others when needed. In August of 2019, he had a lung transplant, and this beautiful gift gave him an additional four years and five months of life to spend with his loved ones. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Oak Hill.

Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
