David Michael Smith

Private First Class David Michael Smith , 26, of El Cajon, CA died on Sunday, July 25, 201 in El Cajon, CA from injuries received in an accident. Born October 29, 1983 at Hillsdale, MI he was the son of Brenda Elaine Dent of Oak Hill, WV and Rodney Lynn Smith of Coco Beach, FL. David was a Lay Chaplain and was active in the Iglesia Palabra Viva church in Chula Vista, CA where he coordinated bible studies. He was a US Army reservist who had recently received activation orders and was preparing for training before being sent to Iraq. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emogene Overstreet, William Fredrick Dent and Darrell and Arlene Smith. Survivors include In addition to his parents he is survived by brothers, Rodney Smith, II of El Cajon, CA and Brandon Dent of Oak Hill; sister, Sarah Smith of Fayetteville and aunts and uncles, Wayne Dent of Fayetteville, Barbara Pritt and husband Mike of Gauley Bridge, Sandra Dent of Oak Hill, Kenny Dent of Oak Hill, Glen Dent and wife, Regina of Indiana, Keith Dent and wife, Dianna of Indiana, Rhonda Francis of Michigan, and Pamela Hill of Fayetteville and a special friend, Becca and her son, Desmond. He is also survived by step grandfather, James Overstreet of Oak Hill; step grandmother, Brenda Dent of Fayetteville; nieces, Emily Smith; nephew, Elijah Cortez and numerous other family members and friends. Services will be on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill with full military honors.
