David J. Parrish, Sr.

David J. Parrish, Sr. age 67 of Oak Hill, WV died Monday, December 24, 2007 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Ernest L. Parrish Sr. and Pansy Terry Parrish. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ernest L. Parrish, Jr., John Robert Parrish and two infant sisters. David is survived by wife of 45 years, Tennis J. Parrish; son David J. Parrish, Jr. and wife, Eleanor Snider of Versailles, KY; son Matthew A. Parrish and wife, Terri of MacArthur, WV; daughter Teresa Parrish Smith and husband, Chris of Jacksonville, NC; and 6 grandchildren; Amanda Keller, Andrew Keller and Christian Smith of Jacksonville, NC; Austin, Jared and Caroline Parrish of MacArthur, WV; sister-in-law Martha Parrish of Oak Hill; his niece Harriet Ann Parrish Woodson of Oak Hill; his faithful dog Pete and many, many friends. He was a graduate of Collins High School, Concord College and the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. From 1971 until his retirement November 1, 2007 he was a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and office supervisor with the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services with a total of 45 years of public service to the State of West Virginia. David was a life long member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, as an Usher and was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Men. He was a member of The Gideons International Fayette Camp; Fayette County Volunteers/Camp Kismet and a past member of the West Virginia Baptist Convention executive committee. David had a life long passion for baseball and devoted 23 years as a Minor League coach of the Red Sox’s in the Oak Hill Little League. The visitation will be held at the Thursday, December 27, 2008 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Calvary Baptist Church, 1424 East Main Street, Oak Hill, WV 25901. The funeral will be held Friday, December 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM, Calvary Baptist Church, 1424 East Main Street, Oak Hill, WV 25901 Memorials may be made to Gideons International, Fayette Camp, PO Box 429, Oak Hill, WV 25901 or charity of your choice.
