David H. Morton, Sr.

David Howard Morton, Sr., 84, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, December 17, 2007 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born August 29, 1923 at South Charleston, WV he was the son of the late Floyd M. and Goldie A. Newcomer Morton. He was retired from FMC Chemical Corporation and also as a Fayette County School Bus Driver. Mr. Morton was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Oak Hill. A World War II US Army veteran, he received the following decorations and citations: American Theater Ribbon; Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon; Eame Theater Ribbon W/2 Bronze Star; Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal.. His wife, Ruth Marie Kessler Morton preceded him in death on September 18, 1994. Survivors include two sons, David H. Morton, Jr. and wife, Sheryl of Martinsville, VA and Paul Ray Morton and wife, Sherry of Cross Lanes, WV; one daughter, Greta Jean Waddell and husband, Gary of Indianapolis, IN; a special friend, Betty Thomas of Oak Hill; one brother, Rev. Charles E. Morton of Ft. Pierce, FL and one sister, Emma Jeane Watts of Teays Valley, WV. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren. Services will be on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Nazarene in Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush and Rev. Charles E. Morton officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110 of Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Thursday, December 20, 2007 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
