Darrell Gene Wilshire
May 21, 1945 — January 2, 2016
Darrell Gene Wilshire, 70 of Oak Hill, West Virginia passed away Saturday January 2, 2016 at home surrounded by his family whom he dearly loved.
Darrell was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was the son of the late Paul and Ruby Dunn Wilshire and was preceded in death by his two sisters Brenda Newcomb and Susie Gray. Darrell was disabled from the New River Company.
Darrell was better known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Poppaw Fred. He loved spending time plowing his garden on his tractor, hunting in Pendleton County hunting with all his boys and loved riding his Harley with Paul. Darrell was always willing to help anyone and was able to fix about anything.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Harmon Wilshire of Oak Hill, his three sons, Donald and wife, Laura Jo of Georgetown, Kentucky, Paul Wilshire and fiance', Terri Cantley of Fayetteville, and Darrell "Boo" Wilshire and wife, Missy of Oak Hill.
He is also survived by his six grandchildren who were the light of his eyes: Chris and wife, Jamie of Wilmington, NC, Ashley and fiance', Teddy Smith of Little River, SC, Kyle and Megan of Georgetown, KY, Tyler "Big Fred" and wife, Kristin of Oak Hill, and his "Little Buddy" Scott Mikel; and five great-grandchildren Aiden, Case, Easton, Alli and Sophia.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the two hospice nurses, Cari Jo Thompkins and Stephanie Issacs, who went above and beyond making his last days at home comfortable.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Randy James officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friend may call a the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill from 6-8 PM. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.
Pallbearers will be Chris, Kyle, Tyler, Scott Mikel and Aiden Wilshire and Richard "Fizz" Cline.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Bowers Hospice House, PO Box 1472, Beckley, West Virginia 25802.
