Dara Lynn Corker

Dara Lynn Corker , 55, completed her life journey on at 3:03 AM on Sunday, June 03, 2012 at the Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. She then departed to being her eternal heavenly existence. Born March 04, 1957 at Oak Hill, WV she was the daughter of the late Harold Henry and Hazel Marie McNeil Corker. Although born in Oak Hill, Dara had lived most of her life in Beckley. Due to illness last year she had been hospitalized at Salem Health and Rehab in Salem, VA. During this time, God answered all prayers for her a number of times and sent His angels to watch over her until He was ready for her to come home. One sister, Patsy Sue Law of Oak Hill and a brother, Harold Thomas Corker of Springfield, VA preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Alice F. Wills of Montgomery, AL, and Margaret A. Auxier of Virginia Beach, VA and a brother, Jack Corker of Las Vegas, NV. Dara was truly an inspiration to all those who knew her as she faced devastating medical complications. Previously, her sunny personality and uplifting spirit made her a joy to be around. Nothing could match her joy at being in Oak Hill visiting her mother and being around the people she cared so deeply about - her family, her group home family, and the staff there. If she was around you, she would make her presence known with a friendly smile and a "Hello! How are you? It is a nice day today." She loved animals and briefly assisted at the Beckley animal shelter. She was fascinated with babies and small children and spoke to them in a very soft and loving way. Dara enjoyed walks and picnics, shopping and outings, and watching TV, especially All My Children. She loved anything outside so that it is no wonder she choose this warm spring month to make her journey home. If you have someone giving a hearty laugh, think of Dara, she would tell a joke and laugh louder than anyone else. It is apparent that Dara loved all that life had to offer and brought meaning into the lives of her family and friends. I can hear Dara now, always admitting to being "Dara Lynn Corker from Oak Hill, WV." Services of celebration will be on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Charles D. Miller officiating. Dara will be laid to rest beside her mother at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
