Daniel Ben Neely, Sr., 85, of Oak Hill, WV died Saturday, August 05, 2006 Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born February 19, 1921 at Cunard, WV he was the son of the late Oliver Carlisle and Minnie Kelly Neely. Dan was a retired Assessor for Fayette County and retired Radio Master Chief for the US Naval Reserve. He was a member of the CCC and a World War II US Navy veteran having served on the destroyer Simpson DD221 and with the blimp squadron and air traffic control. Mr. Neely served one term as president of the Assessors Association and was a member of the Association of Retired Public Employees. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve patrol and a life member of the Patrol Craft Sailors Association. He was a former member of the Lions Club. His first wife, Dorothy Haynes Neely; one son, Daniel B. "Danny" Neely, Jr., a sister, Mary Ruth; five brothers, Lacy Arnold, Robert Dewey, Kenneth Cecil, Millard and Russell "Toddy" Neely and one step-brother, Ivan Fortner preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lelia Irene Alexander Neely; one daughter, Sharon Niday and companion Don Neely, of Parkersburg, WV; one son, Timmy Neely of Charleston, WV; daughter-in-law, Linda Neely of Oak Hill; step-son, Jamie Long and wife, Stacy of Salt Lake City, Utah; step-daughter, Merry Anne Grimmett and husband, Mark, of Richmond, VA; one sister, Beulah Hatfield and husband, Ken, of Columbus, OH; one brother, Paul Neely of Worthington, OH; a step-brother, Darrell Fortner of Ohio; a step-sister, Nona Arthur of St. Albans; six grandchildren, Patrick Niday of Columbus, OH, Daniel B. "D.B." Neely, III and wife, Lucretia of Virginia, Joseph Oliver Carlisle Neely and companion, Tara of Oak Hill, Teresa Ann Neely of Oak Hill, Alexandra and Savannah Long of Salt Lake City, Utah; one great granddaughter, Chloe' Jayne Neely of Oak Hill and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Thursday, August 10, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Friday, August 11, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill, WV. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Fayette Plateau Ministerial Food Pantry, 250 Main Street East, Oak Hill WV 25901
