A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 17, 2005, at the Gentry Missionary Baptist Church, Sanger, WV for Corporal William J. Rainey who died June 23, 1951 at a P.O.W. Camp in North Korea. Corporal Rainey served with K ("King") Company in the 3rd Battalion of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Born September 16, 1928 Bill was the son of the late Joseph C. and Violet Virginia Rainey of Sanger, WV. He was a 1947 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Owens Rainey Menefee, one son, William Joseph Rainey, Jr. of Charleston, WV and two grandchildren, Brendan Rainey and Laurel Katherine Rainey both of Charleston, WV. Pastor Jim Menefee of New Hope Baptist Church, Covington, VA, Rev. Bill Menefee, former Pastor of Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill, WV and Rev. Jim Franklin of Milton, WV will conduct the memorial service. Following the service, the Oak Hill VFW Post #3110 will conduct Military Rites at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Pea Ridge, WV.
