Clifford Wayne Fankell, 95, of Oak Hill died Friday, February 4, 2005 at Fayette Continuous Care Center, Fayetteville following a long illness. He was born March 7, 1909 in Carter County, Kentucky a son of the late Lloyd and Rachel Fankell. He was a retired coal miner from the New River Pocahonatas Coal Company at Minden. Member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene where he had served as a Trustee and Sunday School teacher, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lyda Shaffer Fankell on March 14, 2004, brothers, Charley, Cecil, George, Risom, Albert and Owen Fankell and sisters, Melva and Eunice Fankell. Survivors include one daughter, Nina Shockey and husband, Lewis, of Fayetteville; one son, Harold Fankell and wife, Mary Sue, of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Crystal Calvert of Oak Hill, Lisa Schoolcraft of London, KY, Dean Fankell of Rainelle, Major Jon Paul Shockey serving with the US Air Force in Little Rock, AR, Jennifer Robinson of Charleston, Justin Shockey of Fayetteville; seven greatgrandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Fankell and wife, Virginia, of Rush, KY, sisters-in-law, June Sargent of Ashland, KY and Marie Fankell of Grayson, KY and nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Dr. Scott Keffer and Fayette Continuous Care Center staff for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Church of the Nazarene, Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush, Rev. Ben Gentile and Rev. Greg Hostutler officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday, February 7, 2005 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill and one hour prior to the service at the church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Dean Fankell, Jon Paul Shockey, Justin Shockey, Patrick Schoolcraft, Steven Calvert and Jeffrey Robinson.
