Clarence Lee Vaughn, age 88, of Oak Hill, WV passed gently into the arms of God from the comfort and care of Bowyer Hospice House in Beckley shortly after midnight April 9, 2016 with his eldest son by his side.
Born December 11, 1927 at Stotesbury, WV, he was the 8th son of the late Rosa Lovell and Gideon Marshall Vaughn.
After completing 8th grade he entered vocational training but was drafted into the Army Air Corps at age 17, shortly after World War II ended. Trained as a teletype repairman in the service of his country, he continued this occupation as a Business Machine Repairman for the next 60 plus years.
Clarence was a kind and patient man, with a dry sense of humor. He was strong in his Baptist faith. A Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, deacon and Building Fund Treasure at what is now the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of more than 66 years, Nola May (Goode) Vaughn. He was the light of her life and she his.
He was preceded in death by brothers Elmer, Raymond, Buford, Roy, and Richard.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by three brothers, Clyde (Margie) of Royston, Georgia, Dillard (Ruth) of Inman, South Carolina and Carlos (Glenda) of Grove, Texas; two sisters, Audrey Edwards of Royston, Georgia and Shirley of Bonifay, Florida; children, Stephen Vaughn (Melinda) of Dothan, Shelby Vaughn (Steven Hartmann) of Martinsburg, Sue Morris (Rick) of Oak Hill, and Karl Vaughn (Sarah) of LaFayette, Indiana; grandsons, Caure Armstrong of LaFayette, Indiana and Travis Vaughn of Oak Hill; and step grandchildren Danny and Casey Broyle of Oak Hill, and Sarah Jackson (Tanner) of Galax, Virginia.
Clarence will be remembered with love and a smile by all who knew him. His kindness, support, and generosity touched many lives.
The family would like to extend the deepest appreciation to the Bowyer Hospice House and the home based health team of the Veterans Hospital.
Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday April 13, 2016 at Tyree Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Sunderland officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
